The 21st Century has presented many advances in technology.
Using technology to advance healthcare and access to care is one of the many benefits. The use of HIPAA compliant platforms to reach communities that previously struggled to recruit providers has changed how care can be delivered.
Telepsychology/Psychiatry describes a behavioral health clinician and patient meeting in real-time using secure video conferencing technology to allow for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of behavioral health conditions. First Nations Telehealth Solutions (FNTS) is an American Indian Owned and operated company comprised of the highest quality multi-culturally informed providers.
Our mission is to provide under-served communities with access to the best behavioral health specialists and prescribers. We are owned and operated by professionals who have lived, served, and provided care on reservations across the United States. We understand the unique needs of the Native community from urban to rural setting, and that one size does not fit all.
Our goal is to collaborate and design a program with each organization that addresses their specific needs. With so many health issues related to stress or trauma, connecting behavioral health with overall health is critical (Strosahl, 1998; Fries, et. al., 1993; Shapiro, et. al., 1985). Additionally, the highest utilizers of healthcare commonly have untreated/unresolved behavioral health needs (Von Korff, et. al., 1992; Katon, et. al., 2003). Treating the WHOLE person has always been the way to wellness in the Native community.
The COVID-19 epidemic has presented our communities with unprecedented need and very limited capacity for care. Thankfully FNTS has already been active, designed for, and serving our communities in this capacity.
